Vanessa Parry Counsellor Lymm
My name is Vanessa Parry, and I am one of the counsellors here at Libertas; I work with both adults and children.
I am an accredited member of the National Counselling Society (NCS) and a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).
Adult Practice
I am an integrative counsellor, which means I use a combination of approaches tailored to the needs of clients. These include person-centred therapy, behavioural methods such as CBT to examine current thoughts and feelings, as well as psychodynamic exploration of the past to help reach an understanding of the issues being faced. Each client is unique, and I welcome their thoughts about the direction in which they would like their therapy sessions to take.
I have been an approved therapist for Anxiety UK for the past 3 years and am experienced in working with clients struggling with anxiety and depression. This can range from mild stress and low mood to a feeling of being completely debilitated.
You do not need a diagnosis to come for therapy, you may not even be able to identify what the issue is. Something might just feel ‘off’, or you may feel stuck and unable to understand why. Together we can work out how to help you get back on track.
Child Therapy
I work both as a school counsellor and privately, with many wonderful children, after training with the children’s counselling charity Place 2 Be. I have a very gentle and relaxed approach and use talking CBT, role play, art and crafts and play therapy when working with children of ages 5-12.
My aim is for each child to enjoy and look forward to their sessions. My 20 years’ experience as a primary school teacher across the year groups means I can connect with children on their level, whatever their age, and adapt therapy to suit their individual needs.
I like finding out what children enjoy so we can incorporate some of their interests and favourite things into our sessions.
I have worked successfully with children on issues such as low self-esteem, anxiety and depression, and have supported them in coping with challenging situations such as family upheaval, bullying, transition and bereavement.
