What is Warm Bamboo Massage?

The bamboo can either be used warm or slightly warmed which makes for a very relaxing experience. Using different lengths and widths of bamboo, all areas of the body can benefit. It can be incorporated into normal deep tissue massage, holistic and Swedish massage.

Bamboo is one of the fastest growing plants on earth which makes it very sustainable. Some bamboo is known to grow as much a 12 inches in one 24 hour period. In China bamboo is used in a variety of different ways such as musical instruments, artwork and some farming tools are also made out of it. In many countries in The East bamboo is seen to symbolise strength, prosperity and peace. In China bamboo is called Chu and some therapists call their bamboo sticks chu sticks or chu therapy.

How does it work?

Warm bamboo massage combines the benefits of ‘Thermalism’ or ‘Thermotherapy’ (the use of heat applications) with massage strokes, using bamboo to create a deep, relaxing and healing treatment.

Using the warmth of the bamboo to warm the skin allows the skin to absorb moisturising and therapeutic oils, while at the same time preparing the musculature of the body so the therapist can work into the deeper muscle layers.

Benefits of thermotherapy include:

  • Increased local circulation
  • Improved blood flow to surrounding tissues
  • Greater ability to transport toxins and waste products from the area
  • Warm bamboo provides a fantastic tool creating a sense of depth to the massage
