Karen Peters – Counsellor – Lymm

My name is Karen and I am one of the Person Centred counsellors working at Libertas.

‘Person Centred’ has recently become quite a catch phrase for organisations but I think it has a very special meaning in Counselling. Here, it is a way of describing that the counsellor doesn’t consider themselves to be an ‘expert’ about you. In fact the Counsellor understands that the only expert about your experience, your feelings, your behaviour and your challenges is you.

When we share problems or dilemmas with friends and family we often get lots of advice and suggestions about how to deal with our issue, even sometimes it feels, how to be a ‘better person’. The trouble is of course that, without wishing to offend or upset, we really need to make those decisions ourselves – especially since we will have to take the actions and bear the consequences of any choices or changes we decide upon.

So as your Counsellor I will be listening to your thoughts, feelings and experiences and supporting you to make sense of them. To consider what you might like to do and to help you find ways to move to a different position.

I am a registered member of the BACP and have been in practice since 2011. I am privileged to work with people facing all kinds of challenges who are seeking a confidential, empathetic and non judging Counsellor to support their process.

I am delighted to include young people, over the age of 11 amongst my client group as I believe it shows great courage on the part of the young person themselves and of their families and friends, for them to acknowledge that they are experiencing a problem or difficulty, to face it, and to seek support in dealing with it, at such a young age.

The BACP specify how I can work ethically with you and set out standards to guide my practice with you. You can have a look yourself by visiting: www.bacp.co.uk

Currently, I am able to offer appointments on Thursdays from 9:00am to 7:30pm and on Mondays from 4:15pm until 6:30pm
