Amy Armitage Counsellor LymmMy goal as a therapist is to create a safe, non-judgemental, supportive space where kindness and respect are at the core of my practice. I work collaboratively with clients to create a genuine and trusting relationship so they feel secure enough to get the most from their therapy.

I know from my own experience of counselling how rewarding and empowering therapy can be. Sharing what was going on in my internal world with the support of a sincere and caring therapist helped me to make some life-changing decisions. Counselling offers the insight, perspective and wisdom to get clarity and regain control. Whilst my therapeutic journey wasn’t easy, the ongoing learning process provides me with the tools to be able to help myself when I need it the most.

I’m fully qualified and a registered member of the British Association for Counsellors and Psychotherapists. This means I adhere to their ethical framework ensuring my clients receive the best standard of care possible. My training includes Compassion Focused Therapy and Person-Centred Counselling. I use a combination of both approaches, meaning I adapt my style depending on the needs of my client.
Areas of counselling that I offer include, but are not limited to:

  • Anxiety
  • Depression/low mood
  • Unhelpful thoughts/patterns of behaviour
  • Low confidence/self-esteem
  • Stress/work-related stress
  • Bullying
  • Suicidal thoughts
  • Childhood abuse
  • Family issues
  • Relationship issues
  • Anger
  • Domestic abuse (including coercive control and gaslighting)
  • Grief & loss
  • Terminal illness

I’ve worked with a wide range of clients from a variety backgrounds. Due to my studies in Compassionate Focused Therapy, I have particular experience in working with feelings of guilt, shame, self-doubt, low self-esteem, self-criticism and addictive or self-sabotaging behaviours.
